There will be a gathering by Artists for Peace (http://www.artistespourlapaix.org) today at 5pm in Montreal at the entrance of the Mtl Botanical Gardens to commemorate the Hiroshima bombing and to put pressure on PM Trudeau to sign the July 7 treaty to ban nuclear weapons that was signed by 122 countries.

We must never forget the horror of war even if it has not touched us directly. Our priority should begin with nuclear weapons, and on to the rest of the armaments used by unscrupulous governments.

I have concerns like some of the others who mentioned the absence of a comment section on this petition. I’m finding more and more that public comments about political issues are being disallowed or censored in some way. Canada has some of the worst laws against free speech in the western world.
Anyway, it is just a logical fact that violence can NEVER produce a true and lasting peace. While I’m 100% against nuclear weapons, until we as a society take the power to create money from the private banking cartels and put it into the hands of the people in a transparent monetary system, there is no chance to end these perpetual wars against our fellow human beings.

Why will you hesitate about BANNING nuclear weapons????????????????

Surely it is about time Canada took a strong and INDEPENDENT position to ban nuclear weapons use! This is a clear and present danger to the entire world and is in the hands of several unstable regimes currently. Unless International pressure increases, nothing is going to change and the danger will grow.

Banning Nuclear Weapons in every country of the world is a brilliant idea, however, banning ALL evil weapons in every country in the world is an even better idea…….

If we ever hope to build a world free of nuclear weapons we must first challenge all the fake news spread by the neo liberal mass media.
All media reports and information offered for our consumption must be challenged for it’s authenticity .
News stories reported by the mass media using terms such as “sources reported” ,”witnesses said ” or the making of unsubstantiated claims like the FBI and CIA claim that Russia rigged the U.S elections should be rejected and exposed as lies they are.
Only when the truth is exposed will we be able to stop the war hawks in their insane drive to use nuclear weapons.

Our world has enough problems with the nuclear power plant melt downs such as chernoble and fushiama. We would be insane to engage in any war at all. Please try to excuse my spelling .

I concur with the response from Dee Nicholson that a format which allows for individualizing the letter would have been better. I am angry that the Trudeau govt. has sent Canadian soldiers to Latvia and fallen into this ‘cold war ‘posturing of the US . There are already numerous US bases surrounding much of Russia. And how hypocritical can you get to decry Russian interference in Ukraine while supporting US interference in Venezuela, Nicaragua etc. and doing nothing to stop Saudi aggression in Yemen. All of these interventions stoke the call by other countries to have nuclear weapons to keep US interference and aggression at bay, like Korea and Iran have done.

You can send your own letter direct to the PM at pm@pm.gc.ca and copy your MP if you know who that is. that is very effective as well.

I wish this petition had a format where you could add your own commentary to the letter to be sent. This one is entirely too politically correct! If there were, I’d have said, “Justin, we didn’t hire you to kiss NATO butt, especially with that war hawk Trump blustering and waving his tiny hands towards WW3; we hired you to kiss OUR butt, not his, or any other globalist’s. Suggest you start doing a bit of that instead of sitting there stupidly looking pretty… or should I say, looking pretty stupid?”
Besides, we need to remember that Trump can already blow up the rest of the world with ease. If they don’t disarm, there is no point. Only one way to stop that…. boycott his business! The stupid thing is, if Clinton had won, we’d be at Defcon One already.

    Include depleted uranium ordinance.

Given who is running the USA and North Korea, there has never been a bigger need to discuss and eliminate nuclear weapons and materials!

I need to stress that this has to include depleted uranium ordnance shells.
