What should we say to Sen. Romeo Dallaire?

Dear Ceasefire.ca supporter,

I have been invited to appear before the Senate’s National Security and Defence committee, and I want your advice before I write my remarks.

What should we say to the committee, whose membership includes the esteemed Sen. Romeo Dallaire?

Please share your ideas in the comment section below, and I will try to include them when I make my presentation on March 3rd.

This is the same senate committee that was chaired by the disgraced Senator Pamela Wallin. She is gone now, and I met the committee’s new chair a few weeks ago to discuss the committee’s upcoming study of Canada and the U.S. ballistic missile defence program.

That’s right – “Star Wars” is back on the political agenda!

The committee has already heard from missile defence boosters, and now it is our turn to show how Canada can work for peace and disarmament&#8212not join unfathomably expensive, useless, and potentially destabilizing weapons systems like George W. Bush’s Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) shield.

Please share your ideas with me, and I will try to include them in my remarks.

Thanks for being part of our Ceasefire.ca community!

P.S. Here is a very interesting editorial from the New York Times last summer about missile defence under President Obama.
