Ottawa Event: Confronting Canada’s Defence Lobby

“CONFRONTING CANADA’S DEFENCE LOBBY”

with Steven Staples, Rideau Institute

28 January 2014, 7:30 PM
Saint Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church, 2345 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa

Steve will discuss the growing influence of the defence lobby in Canada. He will share a who’s who pushing pro-war policies in Ottawa, and how Harper’s government plans to make Canada a global arms exporter.

Steven Staples is the President of the Rideau Institute, an independent research and advocacy group based in Ottawa with a focus on defence and foreign policy. His and the organization’s effective peace work has made them frequent targets of the Harper government and its supporters in the defence lobby and Conservative media, such as Sun TV. Steven is also a founder of Ceasefire.ca, a community of more than 25,000 Canadians who want Canada to be a peace leader, once again.

Ploughshares Ottawa meets on the fourth Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Saint Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church, 2345 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa.  The church is next to the fire station at the corner of Alta Vista Dr. and Randal Ave., two blocks north of Heron Rd. Our meetings are open to the public.  Each meeting includes a short business meeting followed by a guest speaker focussing on an issue related to peace  and justice.  The meeting concludes with an opportunity for informal discussion.  Light refreshments are served.
