So far 115 countries have signed the UN Arms Trade Treaty, including the United States, the U.K., France, and many other allies — but the Harper government has not signed.
The Harper government spent taxpayers’ money to send Steve Torino, the President of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association, to a conference on the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons, despite the fact the CSSA dismissed the Programme as not “even remotely important.”
The Canadian government voted in favour of the new U.N. Arms Trade Treaty in April, but it has refused to commit to signing the treaty, arguing that it needs to consult Canadians first.
