The bungled F-35 procurement that has been plaguing the Harper Government is about to heat up again.

Reducing the influence of Canada’s military industrial complex and transferring military spending to issues more relevant and beneficial to Canadians should be the top priority for Ceasefire.ca in 2014, according to many of its supporters.

The Harper government wants to widen the list of Canadians arms customers in order to offset decreasing demand in “traditional markets” such as the United States and Britain.

Canada’s international reputation is in tatters, and Harper’s government is willing to put millions of people’s lives at risk by undermining global peace and disarmament efforts.

The United Nations’ High Representative for Disarmament, Angela Kane, is among those asking Canada to sign the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty

So far 115 countries have signed the UN Arms Trade Treaty, including the United States, the U.K., France, and many other allies — but the Harper government has not signed.
