Several activist organization set up websites and were encouraging Canadians to use the meeting to send their own messages to the leaders.

“42 Minutes with Obama,” hosted on , a website maintained by the Ottawa-based research and advocacy group the Rideau Institute included this message to the President – “I do not understand why you are not only continuing the war in Afghanistan but are, in fact, increasing the number of American troops there” – from Grace Isaak.

Afghanistan, where a raging Islamic insurgency has made this summer the bloodiest since the war was launched to topple the Taliban in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, looms over the Harper-Obama meetings.

The pro-war website, The Torch, howled in protest. Hey, we must be doing something right!
