The vast majority of the secret files collected on Canadians by the RCMP Security Service were destroyed by its successor agency, CSIS, in 1988.
The Harper government has given CSIS the go-ahead to provide information to foreign agencies even when there is a “substantial risk” it will lead to torture.
Public Safety Minister Vic Toews has directed the Canadian Security Intelligence Service to accept — “in exceptional circumstances” only of course — information obtained through the use of torture.
